Wattr Survey
The Android app a field rep uses to record a water pump — who farms it, what the pump is, how it irrigates, and what it looks like. This is the complete picture of every screen, in every mode, with the questions each one asks.
What this app is
A rep stands at a tubewell in a Punjab field, often in bright sun, often with patchy signal, and answers a series of questions about the pump in front of them. The app writes the answers to the phone first and sends them when it can. Nothing depends on being online at the moment of the visit.
Every submission lands in the CRM as a field intake record. From there it is reviewed field by field, and — depending on the mode — used to create the pump, the device mapping and the farmer’s login.
The four modes
Everything hinges on one question — Installation Option — asked on the third page. It decides which pages the rep sees next and what the back office does with the result.

Getting started — the pages every mode shares
The first four pages are the same whatever the rep is doing. The mode only changes what comes after.
What happens here
- Splash — one action, Begin Survey. The language toggle sits top-right and the choice sticks between launches.
- Surveyor Identity — phone number is required; name and employee ID are optional and remembered on the device after the first time.
- What do you want to do? — asked immediately after the phone, because that is the moment the app can look up what this rep has already sent. If they have history, the count appears on the second card.
- Installation Option — the mode. Everything downstream follows from it.

Each strip below scrolls sideways and shows the real screens in order. The screenshots are from a live build against staging data, so the auto-filled values are genuine.
Survey (new / pre-installation)
The pump has no Wattr device on it yet. The rep is capturing the site so a device can be provisioned and a farmer login created.
This is the only mode that provisions automatically on submit — no reviewer needed — provided the tenant and farmer phone are valid. Anything that fails that check waits for a human.

Audit (existing device)
A device is already installed and the rep is inspecting or repairing it. The most common visit.
Entering the IMEI pulls the existing record and auto-fills up to 15 fields. Nothing reaches the live system until a reviewer accepts the survey.

Replace (swap device)
A device is being swapped for a different one on the same pump.
Two IMEIs are captured — the old one being removed and the new one going on. Everything else is a normal survey of the site.

Surrender (remove device)
A device is coming off for good and nothing replaces it. The pump becomes unmonitored.
The shortest flow. Farmer, pump, discharge, irrigation and crop pages are all skipped — nobody is going to be monitoring this pump, so re-collecting its agronomy is wasted effort at the roadside.

GPS lock
The pump’s live GPS location is required — it has to be captured standing at the pump, before the photos. The field boundary is optional: the rep walks the perimeter and taps at each corner, and the app joins the points into a polygon and reports the area in both square metres and acres.
Offline, drafts and sync
Every answer is written to the phone as the rep types. Submitting adds the survey to a queue; the queue drains whenever there is a connection.
- Queued
- Waiting to send, and it will go on its own. This is the number on the sync chip in the header.
- Needs attention
- The app tried to send it eight times and stopped. It will not retry on its own. Tapping the warning shows the actual error with Try again and Discard for each one.
What happens after the rep taps submit
- The survey reaches the API and is stored as a field-intake record.
- Survey provisions immediately — pump, device mapping and farmer login — provided the tenant and farmer phone are valid. Anything that fails that check waits for a person.
- Audit Replace Surrender change nothing live until a reviewer accepts the survey.
- A CS agent then reviews it field by field, marking each answer OK or not OK. A survey cannot be accepted until every answer that was filled in is marked OK.
When a survey comes back for correction
If the reviewer marks some answers as not OK, the rep sees the survey in Surveys you have sent with a count of what needs fixing, and the action reads Fix now instead of Edit.
Opening it puts the form in correction mode: only the rejected answers are editable and highlighted, and everything the reviewer confirmed is locked and labelled. A 20-question survey with 3 problems is a 3-question job.
Glossary
- IMEI
- The 15-digit serial on the device label. Scanned from the QR/barcode, or typed. Required for Audit, Replace and Surrender; optional for a new Survey, because there is no device on the pump yet.
- Tenant
- The organisation the pump belongs to. The farmer’s login is created under it, so picking the wrong one puts the pump on the wrong dashboard.
- Feeder
- The electricity feeder line supplying the pump.
- Kharif / Rabi / Zaid
- The three Indian cropping seasons — monsoon (Jun–Oct), winter (Oct–Mar) and summer (Mar–Jun). Only Kharif is required.
- Trajectory method
- Working out discharge from the outlet pipe diameter and how far the water arc drops, when there is no flowmeter. The app does the arithmetic.
- Field intake
- What a submitted survey is called once it reaches the back office.
Questions we get
- The rep has no signal at the pump. Can they still work?
- Yes. Everything is saved on the phone and sent later. The only thing that will not work offline is the IMEI lookup that auto-fills the site details.
- Why did the app not ask for farmer or crop details?
- They were in Surrender mode. The device is coming off and the pump will not be monitored, so those pages are skipped.
- The rep typed the IMEI and half the form filled itself. Is that right?
- Yes — that is the point. The device record already knows the location, farmer and pump. Everything auto-filled is still editable; the green chip marks what came from the record.
- Two reps share one phone. Is that a problem?
- They should change the number on the Surveyor page. Submissions are attributed to whichever number was entered.
- A survey has been “unsynced” for days.
- Check whether it says needs attention instead. That one is parked and needs the rep to tap Try again or Discard — see Offline & sync.
